Huge congratulations to Year 10 students Ashok James, James Holton, and Eden Babbage have won the top prize in the��Short Shorts, the Kaipatiki Public Arts Trust (KPAT) Student Film Competition.

Their film The Secret of the Beans��won the Intermediate & Secondary Section of the contest.

Judge Campbell Hegan said: ‘I thought this was a very slickly-produced film, and also laugh-out-loud funny.’ He also praised their ‘excellent use of sound effects and music’ and said the scripting, editing, and camerawork were of a very high quality. It was, overall, ‘outstandingly well done’.

Short Shorts creates a platform to promote the Kaipatiki community and young aspiring filmmakers. Primary, intermediate and secondary students are invited to submit short films of 3-5 minutes. This year students were asked to submit a film based on the theme ‘Secrets’.

Because of Covid 19 lockdown restrictions the planned awards presentation could not be held – so the finalists and winners were announced online. Winners will receive certificates and cash prizes once lockdown levels permit.

Finalists – Willow Park Primary – The Escape From The Perfect World; Northcote Primary – Skate Secret; Kauri Park Primary – The Secret Door.
